Bernadino Costa : Quinta da Fonte Souto Tinto 2019
Quinta da Fonte Souto, a Symington estate for some years now and widely renowned for their Port wines. Located in Alto Alentejo, Portalegre, in the Serra de São Mamede range, this marks the producer’s first “adventure” outside the Douro region. The year 2019 represents the third harvest to bear the Symington seal. Quinta
da Fonte Souto Tinto 2019 certainly upholds the reputation of both the region and the producer.
We are in the presence of a wine of high quality, full of character, personality, and the distinctive traits of wines originating from the Serra de São Mamede (altitude and micro-climate), when carefully nurtured by both nature and man. A very well-achieved blend of grape varieties predominant in the region: 40% Syrah, 30% Alicante
Bouschet, 20% Alfrocheiro, and 10% old vines, with the influence of eight months’ ageing in 400-litre French oak barrels clearly felt.
Aromas of Mediterranean scrubland with balsamic notes of pine needles and resin. On the palate it shows rounded tannins, complex yet succulent. Flavours of wild berries, spices, and even a touch of menthol. With great gastronomic potential and capacity for ageing.
A nectar to always keep at home, above all because we are in the presence of a truly distinctive “Alentejano”.
