Portuguese House Row at Paris Design Week 2024

The Portuguese House sector will once again be represented at Paris Design Week, which takes place in the French capital from 5 to 14 September, with the MADE IN PORTUGAL naturally exhibition.Portuguese House Row at Paris Design Week 2024

Organised by AICEP – Agência para o Investimento e Comércio Externo de Portugal (Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal), this presence is ensured by the participation of nearly 60 companies from the various sectors of the industry in an exhibition of dozens of products that promote talent, design and innovation, in perfect harmony with Portuguese tradition and know-how.
The exhibition is curated by interior designer Margarida Moura Simão, who has been working between Portugal and France, where she has worked since 2007.

Due to its privileged location on the Paris Design Week (PDW) circuit and its interior space (350m2), AICEP is once again investing in Galerie Joseph, which is at the centre of one of the Marais’ exclusive cultural routes. In this space, which will be open to the public during the 10 days of the event, visitors will be able to be surprised and appreciate various pieces and concepts, travelling through an environment where the Portuguese offer will be highlighted, supported by talent, the art of know-how, design and innovation, highlighting Portugal’s reputation as a supplier of excellence.

This is the second time that AICEP has organised this sector promotion event in Paris. In 2022, the Metamorphosis exhibition attracted around 2,000 visitors, 70 per cent of whom were professionals (designers, architects, decorators and buyers), 15 per cent from the general and specialised media and 15 per cent from the general public. Around 70 per cent of the visitors were French and the remaining 30 per cent foreign.

The Portuguese home sector is renowned for its tradition in know-how, quality and customisation. It includes the Furniture, Lighting, Home Textiles and Housewares sectors (ceramics, cutlery, metalware, glass and crystal) and is valued for its ability to innovate, create trends and, above all, for the confidence that its heritage inspires in the international market. The sector’s competitive advantages also include high operational efficiency and the ability to quickly produce small series.

The French market is the main destination for Portuguese Casa exports. In 2023, France accounted for 26.8 per cent of Casa exports, followed by Spain, the United States of America, Germany and the United Kingdom. The sector has around 7,200 companies and employs around 65,000 people. The sector’s turnover was 4,423 million euros in 2023, with exports totalling 2,859 million euros. Furniture accounts for more than 50 per cent of total exports, followed by home textiles, domestic utilities and decorative and utilitarian ceramics.
