Palacete Severo: A haven of art and heritage in the centre of Porto

It was in Porto, in the middle of the 20th century, on the street that now bears his name, that Ricardo Severo designed and built an example of the ‘Portuguese house’. Now, 120 years later, that same house – classified as a building of historical interest – has been reborn as Palacete Severo, a boutique hotel where history, art and the luxury of living in the timelessness of modern times are harmoniously interwoven.

Palacete Severo: A haven of art and heritage in the centre of Porto

As a tribute to the architect, engineer, archaeologist and writer Ricardo Severo, the palace has been meticulously restored to reflect the innovative and visionary spirit that has always characterised its creator. The revitalisation of the building was the initiative of the current owners, a couple of French origin with a deep connection to cultural and natural heritage.

‘The intervention in the space has always been guided by the utmost respect for its history. We want our guests to feel the authenticity of the space and the history it preserves, making each stay truly memorable,’ explains the hotel’s owner. ‘This is a place of Ricardo Severo’s timeless love. A place of love for art, for heritage. The essence of Ricardo Severo lives on in the soul of this house. It’s in the paintings, the concepts, the ceramics, the grace of the statues, the colours and the light that enters through the stained glass windows,’ he concludes.

With just 20 rooms and suites, all designed by renowned interior designer Paulo Lobo, Palacete Severo offers an exclusive and personalised experience. Historic elements such as stained glass, ceramics and woodwork have been restored with a deep respect for the original heritage, while a contemporary approach takes the space to a new level of comfort and technology.

Among the hotel’s highlights is the Éon restaurant, led by chef Tiago Bonito – awarded a Michelin star – which invites you to a unique sensory story, where every flavour, texture and detail reflects the chef’s experiences, telling stories through carefully selected ingredients – in a fusion of memories and gastronomy. In addition, the Hotel and the Chef present Bistrô Severo, a restaurant that aims to provide a creative and Mediterranean response, more informal, without forgetting the local gastronomy and a service of excellence to the local and business market that surrounds the hotel.

Art plays a central role in Palacete Severo, which becomes the second home of Perspective Galerie. The gallery offers guests an immersive visual experience, creating a unique link between Perspective Galerie Porto and Perspective Galerie Paris. All the exhibitions – and their curators – invite visitors to embark on an artistic journey where art inspires and enriches them.

This is a place that goes beyond physical space, where silence is respected and honoured. Olivier Claire, a pioneer in natural skincare and a symbol of serenity and excellence, has chosen Spa Severo as its exclusive brand on its entry into Portugal. Olivier Claire and the Palacete Severo come together with an innovative vision of sustainable well-being to provide a unique approach to rejuvenation.

The hotel’s offer is complemented by the garden – surprisingly hidden in silence and time – outdoor swimming pool, gym, library and events room, providing a perfect balance between serenity and comfort.

‘Palacete Severo is a hidden refuge in the centre of Porto, where personalised service guarantees comfort and exclusivity, always maintaining a strong connection with the local heritage and culture. Our aim is for the Palacete to become a destination of excellence in luxury tourism, offering a truly authentic and sophisticated experience,’ adds Joana Almeida, the hotel’s General Manager.

Located in Boavista, at Palacete Severo connection or disconnection is at the discretion of each guest. Respect for the past, innovation, environmental and cultural responsibility coexist in perfect harmony.
