Mercan Properties Group opens Holiday Inn Express Évora

The inauguration event, which took place this afternoon and was attended by representatives of the group, local organisations and special guests such as the Mayor of Évora, Carlos Pinto de Sá, marks the beginning of the operation of this new hotel, under the banner of the prestigious international brand IHG Hotels & Resorts.

The Holiday Inn Express Évora, located next to Portas de Avis, represents an investment of 16.8 million euros and creates 35 new jobs in the operation, in addition to the 98 already created during the construction period, thus reinforcing the Mercan Properties Group’s commitment to economic and tourist development in the region.

This new hotel joins the Group’s other successful developments, such as the Hilton Garden Inn Évora and the Holiday Inn Beja, consolidating the Mercan Properties Group’s presence in the Alentejo and in the country, as one of the biggest drivers of the hotel and tourism sector.

During the opening event, Jordi Vilanova, President of the Mercan Properties Group in Portugal, emphasised the importance of this project in the context of the Group’s expansion in the Alentejo: ‘The opening of HIEX Évora represents a new and important milestone in the history of the Mercan Properties Group in Portugal and, in particular, in this beautiful region of Alentejo. This project reflects our vision as promoters of investments in urban regeneration projects, while at the same time promoting the cultural and historical richness of the city of Évora. We are very excited about the expected positive impact of this development in Évora’.

With a contemporary design, the new Holiday Inn Express Évora offers 76 rooms, a swimming pool, restaurant, lounge bar and meeting rooms, making it the perfect choice for leisure and business travellers.

The hotel will be managed by AHM – Ace Hospitality Management, a group company specialising in hotel management.

With the official opening of the Holiday Inn Express Évora, the Mercan Properties Group is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and the promotion of excellent tourism in inland Portugal. This is the group’s second hotel in Évora, following the opening and start of operations of the Hilton Garden Inn Évora last year.
