Casais Group closes Conference Cycle in Barcelos

As part of the cycle of conferences promoted by the Casais Group, the last of the three conferences organised by the group to debate the future of construction in Portugal took place on 15 November in Barcelos. The theme of ‘Functional Design’ comes at a crucial time for the sector, where the confrontation between increasing demands for the functional performance of buildings and the scarcity of resources is increasingly significant.

With the aim of challenging industrial preconceptions through innovative solutions, the third
conference organised by the Casais Group reflected on the importance of functional design, which is
essential, but hardly visible in everyday life, ends up moulding our experience and productivity,
and can be very important in the interconnection with industrialised and prefabricated construction.

This event, held in the Eng. António Tavares auditorium (IPCA Campus) in Barcelos, was attended by
several speakers took part, such as Nuno Baltazar (Designer and creator of Designer Fashion), Filipe Mesquita (Graphic Designer at This is Pacifica), Luís Jorge (Civil Engineer at TISEM), Gabriel Tan (Industrial Designer at Gabriel Tan Studio) and Jorge Brandão Pereira (Director of IPCA’s School of Design).

“Talent is crucial for responding to the needs of an ever-changing market, but we know that the challenges are great. It is imperative to create a rapprochement between the business world and
academia to prepare new generations to think about functional and sustainable design.”, said
António Carlos Rodrigues, CEO of the Casais Group.

“At the Casais Group, we believe that good design is timeless, capable of responding to the needs of people and the planet. That’s why we’ve invested in prototyping and industrialised construction, approaches that industrialised construction, approaches that promote innovation and help overcome the difficulties of our
industry to keep up with the demands of evolution,” concluded the CEO of the Casais Group.

The ‘Functional Design’ conference closed the cycle of conferences organised by the Casais Group
(Guimarães, Lisbon and Barcelos) and is part of the group’s commitment to promoting debates that
contribute to the evolution of the construction sector in Portugal and to respond to one of the biggest crises the country is going through, the housing crisis.
