Bespoke Architects presents new Sky Base One project

Inspired by a cult science fiction film series, this project located in Lagoa, Algarve, has an area of 641m2.

It all started with the client’s desire to create a villa inspired by a cult science fiction film series. Learning the philosophy behind this cult series leads to a journey of self-development based on traditional Chinese Taoism, to understand how nature balances itself and the nature of things.
On this plot of land facing the sea in Carvoeiro, there was a need to obtain as much habitable space as possible, with a view of the sea on a relatively narrow plot. The orienting grid is fundamental in organising the interior spaces, maximising the view to the south and guaranteeing privacy from the neighbouring plots. The social spaces are elevated, unlike the private rooms, to emphasise and make the architectural object more complex. The relationship between the raised pool and the house draws a dynamic line that elevates the plot, resulting in a project with a vigorous and unique form.
The heart of the villa is its centre, with a lift and a striking circular room. The skylights mimic technical hatches as they slope from the edges towards the centre, reaching the highest point of the form. The design is based on the principles of fractal geometry and the golden ratio.

The strength of the lines of the bedroom corridors makes the smooth transition to the vast dome, preparing us as we gently climb and begin to smell the sea breeze until our eyes can reach it. There it is, where the V-shape of the valley and the shape of the infinity pool meet. The social area, sheltered from the sun, invites the most delicate details to the furniture and kitchen units. We stepped out onto the terrace, with views shielded from the neighbours, and found this body of water quietly reflecting the light, rising above the natural ground, greeting the sun.
The lights that shine from the house at night as we walk to the entrance, the spotlights in the corridors, the windows going down to the pool, the ‘time distortion’ lights on the ceiling of the social area, the brass details on the lift and the pool. All these details are remarkably important in distinguishing Sky Base One from the ordinary. It seeks to enhance the event of life, the experience of home, whether in a group or party environment. All the environments are suited to the nature of the space that Sky Base One provides.
