Anabela Moreira : The feeling of being at ease at home
When we speak of comfort, we’re not just referring to soft sofas or fluffy cushions. Comfort is the feeling of being well at home – a refuge that welcomes, soothes, embraces, and conveys peace and harmony. In interior design, this feeling is created with intention and sensitivity, a balance between
aesthetics and function.
Natural materials, such as wood and linen, bring visual warmth. Soft colours, well-planned lighting, and pleasant textures help to build an atmosphere of wellbeing. Every detail matters – from the touch of a throw draped over the sofa to the choice of the perfect armchair for relaxing.
Comfort also lies in silence, in good ventilation, in scents that stir fond memories. It’s a full sensory experience. Creating comfortable spaces is, above all, an exercise in empathy – understanding what makes each person feel at peace. Many clients come to me asking to transform spaces, but what they really want is to transform sensations. They say, “I want a beautiful home,” but what they truly mean is, “I want a place that makes me feel good.” And that’s where comfort comes in – that state of being that’s expressed through natural materials and textures that invite the touch.
Perhaps that is the quietest mission of interior design: to create spaces where comfort isn’t just seen, but felt. Where one can take a deep breath and think, “Here, I feel at ease.”
